Unheralded Winter Retreat

If you own a home in Uxbridge, Ontario, chances are that on more than one occasion you have considered flying south, at least for the winter. While Canada has its own appeal on many different levels, the Canadian winter remains a season to be reckoned with, even in this era of global warming. The days get too short, the nights too long, the sun is frequently hidden behind clouds, and the temperatures are constantly below freezing.

Canadians aren't the only ones looking to get away from the frozen northern winters. Many residents of northern states look to fly south for the season as well. These snowbirds, as they are called, generally retreat to a handful of very particular states from November to March. The popularity of Florida, California, and Texas has meant that there are some beautiful opportunities severely overlooked by the migrators each year. Before you call Remax Brampton about a finding you a home in Dade County, why not consider what Knoxville Tennessee has to offer?

Right up front, we will be the first to admit that Knoxville can't quite compete with the southern states when it comes to temperature. However, that in itself is good reason for many snowbirds to consider a move to the city. The average temperatures during winter in this subtropical state climate are around eight degrees Celsius. That's comfortable enough; although snow is not unknown here in December and January. And for those who have left their house in Bennington Heights behind, the mild snowfall can be a comforting reminder of home.

With a population of just under 300,000, Knoxville has just the right amount of infrastructure to guarantee a comfortable stay for visiting and permanent residents alike. It's a clean city with state of the art healthcare facilities, thanks in large part to the presence of the main campus of the University of Tennessee. Homes similar to the Corktown lofts Toronto has to offer can be found up and down the banks of the rivers that run through the city, ideal home and vacation home getaways.

And then, of course, there is the music scene for which the entire state is famous. Knoxville has been referred to as a northern version of Austin, without all the hype. That means, of course, without all the extra frivolities that increase the cost of living in so many of the southern states. You can enjoy a city that has made a strong and continued contribution to the bluegrass, country, and old-time music without the high prices many music based cities entail.

Before you market that resale home, Mississauga based or otherwise, and move to California, consider what Knoxville Tennessee has to offer. There's plenty of culture and warm temperatures to be found, without the expenses that popularity tends to create.
