Gotta Know Knoxville

When you think about it, it seems a bit strange that most cities in North America list tourism as one of their number one sources of revenue. It's kind of hard to believe that people spend all that time travelling to an adult hockey tournament or other attraction. If everyone has tourism at the heart of their economy, then who is paying the salaries which allow people to tour in the first place?

Whatever the answer is, it is clear that places such as Knoxville derive a significant amount of money from the tourism sector. Many owners of Knoxville TN real estate make their livings in this sector, and everyone is always looking for ways to attract more people to Knoxville each year. Some people fit their bathrooms with contemporary bathroom vanities with the goal of creating a bed and breakfast to accommodate these extra visitors.

With that in mind, it makes sense that city council would get itself involved in improving the overall tourist industry here in Knoxville. It's already very good, but wouldn't it be great if different employees within the industry itself had a substantial knowledge of all the most important spots for tourists to visit once they came here? It's surprising, but lots of people don't realize just what there is to do in this city when they live here. We get distracted by every day routines of diapers, work, and so on, and don't get out to really see the sights.

The Gotta Know Knoxville program is designed to give employees within the tourist sector the chance to gain a more in depth understanding of what our city has to offer. The city offers the program once each month for up to twenty employees working at hotels, restaurants, and popular sight seeing attractions in the city.

The idea behind the program is to give the people with the most exposure to visitors more exposure to their own city. With some hands on experience, they can tell visitors where some of the best places to go in town are, backed by their own knowledge of the site. They won't have to worry that their directions will send a visitor to the auto dealer supply store instead of to the zoo, for example.

The program includes a walking tour, a driving tour, and a one hour talk on Knoxville attractions and lasts a total of four hours. They say if you want to grow a better garden, get used to using hand garden tools, and the same could be said for growing the Knoxville tourist industry. To increase it, people need some great exposure.
