Knoxville is home to a rich arts community and has many festivals throughout the year. It's well known for its old-time, bluegrass and country music contributions like Flatt & Scruggs, Homer & Jethro, and the Everly Brothers and Hank Williams. As far as festivals are concerned, there is the 17-day Dogwood Arts Festival in April that features art shows, craft fairs, food and live music. In the same month there is also the Rossini Festival that celebrates opera and Italian culture. In June there is June's Kuumba (which means creativity in Swahili) Festival that commemorates the region's African American heritage and showcases arts, folk arts, dance, games, music, storytelling, theater, and food.
